Not overkill if you're selective about it. A hackathon winner I covered recently has 14 MCPs configured but only enables 5-6 at a time, and his hooks run Prettier and TypeScript checks automatically after edits. The trick isn't using everything; it's knowing which bits actually earn their keep. since then I don’t use MCPs at all btw, skills are much more efficient answer easier to extend
