You might have heard about MJ DeMarcos’ book The Millionaire Fastlane.
This is the first ”self-help” book I’ve read in a long time.
And the name makes it stick:
Fastlane
The promise is that you’re getting where everyone else is headed, but faster.
Does the book deliver - you’ll be a judge of that.
I’ll tell you a different story.
I turned 35 two weeks ago.
No better time to do some housekeeping. Get rid of what doesn’t work or bothers me, and do more of the stuff that sparks something.
This process obviously begins with buying a new domain. Right? Right.
I wasn’t aware of what I was getting into…
I went to my favorite registrar, and while still under the influence of The Millionaire Fastlane, I typed:
Writers Fastlane
My heart stopped when I saw .com for $9.
Without hesitation, I clicked checkout and bought the domain for one year.
Since I’m writing consistently, I always wanted a home for my writing endeavors. WritersFastlane.com sounded too good to be true.
This is why - two days before launching my first course, Blog Like a Boss, I wondered if I should host it as a subpage on Gumroad instead.
I knew it: the imposter syndrome kicked in.
Who am I to own writersfastlane.com?
I had many questions for myself, but then I finally launched.
Do you know why?
Because speed is relative.
The other day I was out there riding my bike. I raced for a couple of years, and I can sustain a 40km/h pace without a huge effort.
Is that fast? Kind of. It clears up the path in front of you pretty well.
Then I watched Starship launch into the atmosphere at 1700 km/h.
Is that fast? That’s pretty fast too.
Here’s the thing.
My Writer’s Fastlane might not be the fastest lane to get better at writing, but it might be a faster lane than your current lane.
Or, as Alex Hermozi tweeted recently:
Now that being said, you don’t need to be more credible than everyone on earth. You just need to be more credible than the average person at the thing you’re talking about.
Enjoy the weekend.
Cheers,
Akos
