The Unseen Rewards of Writing: Beyond Immediate Gratification
Writing can feel like an unrewarding process.
A ton of work in, not many rewards out – at least, not immediately.
Is that always the case? Are certain types of writings performing better on a shorter time horizon?
I saw this article on dev.to, and I thought I’d add my two cents:
But are they bad?
Like this newsletter, every piece of content has perspective and an author with goals and motivation.
Listicles have some terrific attributes:
they are fast to create compared to basically anything else
you can pile up keywords and have the potential to hit multiple targets
Are they bad or good for the reader? I’m not the Content Police Buerau to judge.
Content picks the reader.
As early as revealing its title to them. If they picked someone with interest in listicles, so be it.
Readers who tune in to listicles might be terrible readers for your value-driven commentary on data engineering, B2B TikTok marketing, or engineering insights.
But your writing will find its readers, too.
And you can do little to influence that except write a lot and share it.
Trust the process,
