I admit for a long time, it wasn't attractive to me because I associated it with terms like ads and tricks. In reality, it's more like being aware of what others want to look for in your CV, blog, or newsletter and applying that knowledge to make it more compelling.
This is a clear reminder to start marketing ourselves when we don't need it.
Once we need it, we'll be a few steps ahead and even the outbound marketing will go with a decent level of authority.

Likewise thought it was wrong until I started my first business and decided I better learn how to get customers.
